God of War Ragnarok Celebrates Franchise's 20-Year Anniversary With Dark Odyssey Cosmetic Update Next Week

Sony and Santa Monica Studio have unveiled the Dark Odyssey collection, a free update for God of War Ragnarök arriving next week. This update features in-game equipment themed after one of the franchise's most iconic outfits, a stylish black-and-gold aesthetic.

Detailed in a recent PlayStation Blog post, the Dark Odyssey update is a major highlight of Sony's God of War 20th-anniversary celebrations. Available for both PlayStation 5 and PC players, it offers a wealth of cosmetic items. Atreus and Freya receive new cosmetic sets, along with various weapon and shield skins.

The star of the show is undoubtedly Kratos' new Dark Odyssey appearance and armor set, reminiscent of a skin previously only obtainable by completing God of War 2 on God Mode. Players can acquire this content from any Lost Items chest in the main game or instantly in the Valhalla mode after the update launches. The patch also introduces the highly anticipated ability to customize Kratos' weapon appearances without affecting their stats.

God of War Ragnarök's release in late 2022 marked only the beginning of the 20th-anniversary celebrations. Beyond the Dark Odyssey update, Sony's plans include a range of activities: downloadable social media assets (here), an art showcase in collaboration with Los Angeles' Gallery Nucleus, new merchandise, sales, multiple vinyl releases, and more.
