The beloved survival horror classics, Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2, have been resurrected and are now available on PC through GOG, the CD Projekt-owned platform. These re-releases are part of GOG's Preservation Program, ensuring the games are available DRM-free and with their original content intact, optimized for modern systems.
Originally launched by Capcom on the PlayStation in 1999 and 2000 respectively, these titles have been a staple for fans of the genre. Despite the release of Dino Crisis 3 as an Xbox exclusive in 2003, the series has remained dormant since. While fans have clamored for a new installment or an HD remake, Capcom's focus has shifted elsewhere, highlighted by their 2022 announcement of Exoprimal, a dinosaur-themed multiplayer game, which many saw as the final sign that a Dino Crisis revival was unlikely. Moreover, Dino Crisis creator Shinji Mikami noted last August that the success of Capcom's Monster Hunter series leaves little room for a Dino Crisis reboot or remake.
The PC versions of Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2 have historically been challenging to find and run on contemporary systems. GOG's efforts to bring these games back are therefore a welcome development for fans.
"Thanks to the tremendous efforts of Capcom and GOG, Regina's iconic line, 'You’re extinct!' no longer applies to the game itself," GOG stated about Dino Crisis. "The timeless thriller that defined a generation of gamers is made to last forever, enhanced for today’s systems, featuring all the original content you loved with numerous improvements."
In addition to these re-releases, GOG has introduced its Dreamlist, a community-driven tool that allows users to vote for games they wish to see revived or added to the platform. This initiative helps GOG demonstrate community interest to IP owners, facilitating the potential return of beloved titles to the platform.
