Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) continues its remarkable sales performance, shifting an impressive 5 million copies in the last three months alone – a testament to its enduring popularity over a decade after its September 2013 launch. It remains one of the best-selling video games ever.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2), released in October 2018, also saw a sales surge, adding 3 million units to its already substantial 70 million copy total in the recent quarter.
The ongoing success of GTA Online, GTA V's consistently updated multiplayer component, plays a significant role in this sustained performance. Take-Two Interactive's commitment to releasing new content, such as the December 2024 Agents of Sabotage update, keeps players engaged and returning.
Looking ahead, Take-Two has confirmed a Fall 2025 release for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. Further bolstering their upcoming release slate are Mafia: The Old Country (expected Summer 2025) and Borderlands 4 (expected later in 2025).
While concerns regarding potential delays for Grand Theft Auto VI are understandable, Take-Two's recent financial reports reaffirm its planned autumn release. Similarly, Borderlands 4 is confirmed for a 2025 release, although specific dates remain unannounced.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged Rockstar Games' meticulous development approach, suggesting that additional time may be needed, mirroring the development cycles of previous titles like GTA V and RDR2. Despite this, the fall release window for GTA VI remains the current target.
