Facing off against Chatacabra in *Monster Hunter Wilds*? This long-tongued frog-like monster might be one of your first encounters, but with the right strategies, you can master this hunt early on. Whether you're aiming to take it down or capture it for a unique trophy, we've got you covered with detailed tips to ensure your success.

Chatacabra's primary weakness is to Ice and Thunder elements, making these your go-to damage types. It doesn't have any specific resistances, but it is immune to Sonic Bombs, so don't waste those. This monster primarily uses close-range attacks with its tongue, although it can charge at you if you're too far away. Given its smaller size, weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade might be less effective due to their multi-hit nature, which works better against larger foes.
To effectively combat Chatacabra, stay positioned near its sides. This positioning minimizes your exposure to its dangerous tongue-based attacks, which are most threatening when you're in front of it. Watch out for its front limb slam, which is always preceded by the monster rearing up, giving you ample time to dodge or block. The only other attack to be mindful of is a rare sweep with its tongue when it raises its head skyward. By exploiting its elemental weaknesses and staying out of the direct line of its attacks, you'll quickly dispatch Chatacabra and perhaps even fashion a new frog skin hat from your spoils.

Capturing Chatacabra follows the standard procedure in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Fortunately, this monster cannot fly, simplifying the capture process. To capture it, equip yourself with either a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap, along with two Tranq Bombs. For safety, it's advisable to carry one of each trap and a full set of eight Tranq Bombs, as hunts can sometimes take unexpected turns.
Engage Chatacabra in battle until its health is low enough that a small skull icon appears next to its marker on the mini-map, indicating it's ready for capture. At this point, it will attempt to limp away to a new area. Follow it to its destination, set up your chosen trap in its path, and lure it into the trap. Once Chatacabra is ensnared, quickly use two Tranq Bombs to sedate it, completing your capture. With these strategies, you'll be well-equipped to handle Chatacabra in both combat and capture scenarios.
