IGN can exclusively confirm that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available for play at an Australian museum in September 2025.
Team Cherry’s long-awaited title is one of the most anticipated games globally, dominating Steam wishlists for years. The Adelaide-based studio has yet to announce a specific release date beyond the general 2025 window, but we now know it will be playable at ACMI, Australia’s national museum of screen culture, starting September 18.
Silksong will be featured at the Melbourne museum as part of the Game Worlds exhibition, which will also include exhibits exploring the game’s design and artistic direction.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell stated: "Since its initial announcement in 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong has been one of the most anticipated indie games worldwide – we're thrilled to showcase this South Australian-made game as a centerpiece of Game Worlds in September.
"From the hundreds of sprites animating Hornet’s movements and combat to the intricate logic behind challenging boss encounters – and of course, making the game playable in our gallery – our Silksong displays offer deep insight into its artistic vision and design. We're grateful to Team Cherry for entrusting us with their work and excited to share it with visitors!"
As part of the announcement, ACMI shared an exclusive sprite sheet from Silksong (shown below), one of several design elements that will be displayed in the Game Worlds exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with official permission.

Naturally, Hollow Knight enthusiasts are speculating about what this means for Silksong’s official launch date. It's reasonable to expect the game to release before September 18 if it's going to be publicly playable from that date. Could we be looking at an August launch?
Regardless, momentum is clearly building around Hollow Knight. Silksong made a brief appearance during last month's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, shortly after Team Cherry confirmed the 2025 release window.
The hardware-focused showcase included a fleeting moment of new gameplay footage alongside the updated launch confirmation – marking the most substantial Silksong update in years.
Originally planned for Nintendo Switch and PC, with Xbox (including Game Pass) and PlayStation 4/5 versions announced later, Silksong has been at the center of numerous unusual teasers over the years. Team Cherry began 2025 with a cryptic chocolate cake recipe tease, sparking speculation among dedicated fans about a potential April re-reveal.
