First Image of Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie, The Odyssey, Reveals Matt Damon as Odysseus

Universal Pictures unveils the first look at Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon as the legendary Odysseus. Following the phenomenal success of Oppenheimer, Nolan's adaptation of the ancient Greek epic poem, originally penned in the 8th or 7th century BC, is slated for release on July 17, 2026.

The official synopsis describes The Odyssey as a sweeping action epic, filmed globally using cutting-edge IMAX technology. This marks the first time Homer's seminal work will grace IMAX screens.

The film chronicles Odysseus's arduous ten-year journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. While Universal remains tight-lipped about further plot details, early reports suggest an impressive ensemble cast.

Matt Damon, reuniting with Universal after his Oppenheimer success (a seven-time Academy Award winner), was reportedly the first actor attached to the project. Speculation points towards a star-studded lineup potentially including Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson alongside Damon.
