Infinity Nikki Update 1.5 Sparks Uninstall Threats Over Controversial Changes

Infinity Nikki and its multiplayer-focused 1.5 update have arrived on Steam, but they've been accompanied by a wave of controversy and discontent among fans.

Infold Games' stylish dress-up adventure, which had been exclusive to the Epic Game Store for months, finally made its debut on Valve's digital platform. However, instead of a celebration, the launch was overshadowed by numerous technical issues, unexpected design changes, and demanding new outfit requirements. In response, the developers issued an apology and promised compensation, yet the struggle for a better Infinity Nikki experience continues.

PC players eagerly anticipated the Steam release, but were quickly frustrated by problems such as crashes and general instability that prevented the game from launching properly. While technical issues at launch are not uncommon, the influx of players also brought attention to other troubling aspects of the update.

The introduction of two new five-star outfits, Snowbound Ballad and Undying Ember, each containing 11 pieces, has caused uproar. Completing these sets can require up to 220 pulls, a significant increase over what players are accustomed to, and this change was introduced without prior notice. There's concern that future outfit requirements might become even more demanding.

Additionally, Infold extended the Crown of Miraland: Peak Arena event from two to three weeks, causing further confusion within the community. Amid these issues and the introduction of more intensive monetization strategies, the Chinese player base took to the social media platform RedNote to voice their frustrations. This quickly escalated into a global movement, with many players calling for a boycott of Infinity Nikki on Steam, urging others to leave negative reviews and uninstall the game across all platforms.

A call-to-action post by Reddit user kiaxxl emphasized the importance of withholding pulls for a few days to demonstrate the community's desire for a fun and fair game. "For gacha games, tracking how successful a new batch of content is usually measured on the first few days," they explained. "Holding back your pulls for a couple of days can help show we want IN to remain fun and fair for all players."

The backlash has had an impact, with Infinity Nikki currently holding a "Mixed" rating on Steam due to negative reviews cautioning new players to steer clear until the community's demands are met.

The situation escalated to the point where Infold issued an apology letter across its official channels, acknowledging the technical issues and promising improved communication about future changes. "Thank you again for your support," the message read. "We know we still have shortcomings, but it’s because of your companionship that Nikki can keep pushing the boundaries of imagination. Please give us another chance to let Nikki’s starlight continue shining for all of us, ensuring our sincerity never fades."

Apology Letter Regarding Version 1.5 Gaming Experience

Dear Stylists,
Hope this message finds you well.
First and foremost, we would like to extend our sincerest apologies. We are truly sorry that we were unable to provide you with a stable experience upon the release of the new… pic.twitter.com/YEjpGQpKho

The apology included plans to revert the Mira Crown event to end on May 16 and start the next season on the same day, along with compensation in the form of 10 Revelation Crystals, 10 Resonance Crystals, and 1200 Diamonds. While these steps are a positive move, they fall short of the comprehensive changes some players were hoping for.

While some view Infold's concessions as a victory, others remain wary, particularly regarding the decision to maintain the 11-piece requirement for new outfits. Despite promises of better communication, there are concerns that future five-star outfits will continue to demand 11 pieces.

I wish you would finally change the drop rate.. it can't be that I need 200 pulls to get a 5-star and then you drop like 5 banners within weeks?! Make the rate lower or give us more diamonds to be able to get crystals.. this is not fun!

The community's efforts have led to quick changes, and boycotters are urging others to keep up the pressure. "Think about it: CN players are pointing out that if we accept the 11-piece outfits and pity as it is, most new 5 stars will be 11 pieces," Reddit user EdensAsmr said. "Imagine if every new major update has two 11-piece 5-star banners? That means you have to save even more to be able to handle it, and 70-80 pulls per patch will not cut it."
