Introducing New Races in WoW Patch 11.1

World of Warcraft's Patch 11.1, "Undermined," introduces two thrilling new race types: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races. These replace traditional Skyriding races within the new Undermine zone.

Undermine, the Goblin capital, prohibits flying. Instead, players navigate its subterranean streets using the customizable D.R.I.V.E. vehicle, offering a faster alternative to Skyriding. Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races fully utilize this high-speed ground transportation.

Complementing the ground-based races are the innovative Skyrocket races. These utilize Goblin jetpacks for aerial maneuvering, creating a unique blend of existing flight mechanics. Unlike Steady flight, players can't stop mid-air; however, unlike Skyriding, they maintain momentum and altitude. Collecting rings boosts speed, but also reduces maneuverability, adding a layer of strategic challenge.

Key Features:

  • No Skyriding in Undermine: The zone's design necessitates the introduction of alternative racing mechanics.
  • Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. Races: High-speed ground races utilizing customizable vehicles.
  • Skyrocket Races: Aerial races using Goblin jetpacks, offering a dynamic flight experience.
  • Achievements: Bronze, Silver, and Gold time achievements for all races (both Breakneck and Skyrocket).
  • Reverse Races: Mirror versions of all races are included. (No advanced or challenge courses noted.)

The initial community response to Skyrocket races has been varied, with some praising the novelty, while others express concerns about the perceived stiffness of the jetpack controls. As Patch 11.1 is still under development (with a potential February release), Blizzard has time to refine these races before their official launch.

Race List:

Skyrocket Breakneck
Skyrocketing Sprint Breakneck Bolt
The Heaps Leap Junkyard Jaunt
Scrapshop Shot Casino Cruise
Rags to Riches Run Sandy Scuttle
