"MageTrain: Fast-Paced Pixel Roguelike Now on Android"

Tidepool Games has just released an exciting new game for Android enthusiasts, a fast-paced pixel art 'snakelike' roguelike called MageTrain. If you're familiar with Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain strikingly reminiscent, as it draws significant inspiration from that game.

What’s MageTrain Like?

MageTrain masterfully blends elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into an engaging gameplay experience. You control a line of heroes that follow you in a snakelike formation, each autonomously attacking as you maneuver around an arena. Your role is to strategically manage the positioning of your heroes, deciding who leads and who supports from the back, as their abilities vary based on their position in the train.

At launch, MageTrain offers nine unique heroes, including one who throws birds, each with distinct skills that change depending on their role in the lineup. You'll navigate through eight diverse dungeons, battle against 28 different enemy types, and unlock 30 skills to enhance your team's capabilities. Along the way, you'll gather gold and power-ups to bolster your chances of survival.

The roguelike structure ensures that every run is unique. You'll explore branching paths, make critical decisions on upgrades, and strive to endure as long as possible. This gameplay structure is akin to that found in Slay the Spire or FTL, where there are no fixed levels and no option to save your progress. A single mistake, whether crashing into an obstacle or being overwhelmed by foes, means starting over from scratch.

It Isn’t Slow-Paced

What keeps MageTrain engaging is the continuous improvement with each run, even in defeat. You'll learn when to play defensively, when to launch a full offensive, and when to simply hold on for another few seconds. This dynamic gameplay loop ensures that each playthrough is a learning experience, helping you refine your strategies for future runs.
