The popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals is currently enjoying significant success on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC platforms. However, its developer, NetEase, has been clear that the game will not be available on the Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans. But there's a glimmer of hope with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
At the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to discuss this with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. He shared encouraging news for Switch enthusiasts, indicating that a Switch 2 release is under consideration. Wu stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced last month, promising to be a more powerful and enhanced version of its predecessor. While specifics on its capabilities are still under wraps, it's rumored to feature a new mouse-like controller functionality that could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, bringing it closer to a PC-like experience. The exact implementation of this feature, however, remains to be seen.Currently, the Nintendo Switch 2 does not have a confirmed release date, though a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, which might shed more light on this. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is available on other platforms, and it has received positive feedback. In our review, we gave it an 8/10, praising its ability to "follow closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Fans can look forward to the addition of The Human Torch and The Thing to the game on February 21.
