Monster Hunter Wilds has achieved over 1 million concurrent players on Steam, a remarkable feat despite receiving mixed reviews. This surpasses the peak player counts of its predecessors, Monster Hunter World (334,684) and Monster Hunter Rise (231,360). However, the game's Steam page currently shows a "Mixed" rating, with only 57% positive reviews out of over 54,000. Criticisms largely center on poor PC optimization and performance problems.

Addressing Player Concerns

Capcom acknowledged the negative feedback regarding PC performance. Their official support account, Monster Hunter Status, issued a statement on Twitter (X) on February 28, 2025, directing players to their support website for troubleshooting steps. These include updating graphics drivers, ensuring the latest Windows updates are installed, and performing a clean driver installation. Game-Breaking Bug and Other Issues

A significant bug is currently preventing story progression for some players. The crucial NPC needed for Main Mission: Chapter 5-2, "A World Turned Upside Down," is failing to appear. Monster Hunter Status confirmed awareness of this issue on March 2, 2025, and stated they are actively working on a solution. Additional problems, such as inaccessible "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features, along with Smithy access issues, have also been reported and are being addressed with hotfixes across various platforms.

Character Customization and Microtransactions

Character and Palico customization options are gated behind microtransactions. A "Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack" costing $6.00 allows players three chances to recreate their character. A separate $10.00 pack offers three edits for both the character and Palico. While basic adjustments (hair, eyebrow color, etc.) remain free, significant changes require purchase.
