NetherRealm Studios Unveils Mortal Kombat 1's T-1000 Gameplay and Madam Bo as Kameo Fighter

Get ready for some serious metal-bending action! NetherRealm has dropped the first gameplay footage of the T-1000, the highly anticipated DLC guest character for Mortal Kombat 1. The footage showcases a range of attacks reminiscent of Terminator 2, including the T-1000's signature blade and hook arms. His moveset blends elements reminiscent of Baraka and Kabal, culminating in a liquid metal transformation and a Glacius-esque uppercut.

Robert Patrick, the original T-1000 actor, provides both voice and likeness for the character. The teaser features a clash between the T-1000 and Johnny Cage, showcasing Patrick's voice work for the first time. The trailer culminates with a brutal Fatality, a reimagining of the iconic Terminator 2 truck chase scene, where the T-1000 liquefies to dispatch Cage with a hail of bullets.

Madam Bo joins the Mortal Kombat 1 roster as a Kameo fighter.

Adding to the excitement, NetherRealm surprised fans with the announcement of Madam Bo as a DLC Kameo fighter, launching alongside the T-1000. This fan-favorite character from the base game's story mode will provide support, as briefly shown in the teaser during a pre-game glimpse and a T-1000 assist.

The T-1000 will be available via early access for Khaos Reigns owners on March 18th, with general release on March 25th. Madam Bo will be available as a free update for Khaos Reigns owners on March 18th, or as a standalone purchase.

The T-1000 marks the final DLC character for the Khaos Reigns expansion, following Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. Speculation continues regarding a potential third DLC pack or "Kombat Pack 3," fueled by questions surrounding Mortal Kombat 1's sales performance. However, Warner Bros. Discovery's commitment to the franchise remains strong, with CEO David Zaslav highlighting Mortal Kombat as one of four key titles for future development.

Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat's creative director, previously stated that NetherRealm had already chosen its next project three years ago, while promising continued support for Mortal Kombat 1. While many anticipate a third installment in the Injustice series, official confirmation from NetherRealm or Warner Bros. is still pending. Boon has alluded to various factors influencing the decision to develop another Mortal Kombat title before returning to Injustice, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to a newer Unreal Engine. However, he has explicitly confirmed that the Injustice franchise is not closed off.
