Capcom Unveils Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay, Starring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom has treated fans to a fresh look at its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The new gameplay trailer, showcased during the PlayStation State of Play, reveals the game's protagonist: the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
The trailer highlights the game's dynamic sword combat and impressive boss encounters. While still over a year away, the visuals and action sequences are already generating significant buzz.
Miyamoto Musashi's portrayal promises a blend of unmatched swordsmanship and a charismatic, even comedic, personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the legendary Toshiro Mifune, known for his iconic samurai roles.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, under siege by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To further stoke anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
