Obsidian Entertainment CEO Feargus Urquhart recently provided an update on the development of The Outer Worlds 2 and their upcoming fantasy RPG, Avowed. Development on the highly anticipated Outer Worlds sequel is reportedly progressing well.
Obsidian Entertainment Confident in Upcoming Releases
Urquhart shared his positive assessment of The Outer Worlds 2's development in a recent interview with Limit Break Network. He praised the team's dedication and experience, noting many key members worked on the original title. He expressed confidence in their ability to deliver a high-quality sequel.
However, Urquhart acknowledged significant challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and post-Microsoft acquisition. Simultaneous development of multiple titles, including Grounded and Pentiment, significantly strained resources. He candidly admitted a period of slowed development across their projects. At one point, there were discussions about halting The Outer Worlds 2 development to focus on Avowed. Ultimately, Obsidian decided to persevere with all projects.

Urquhart recounted the complexities of navigating the acquisition, the pandemic, and the simultaneous development of Outer Worlds, its DLC, Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, Grounded, and Pentiment.
Despite these hurdles, Urquhart highlighted the successful launches of Grounded and Pentiment, and expressed enthusiasm for the progress on Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2, describing the latter as "looking incredible." While specific details remain undisclosed, the recent delay of Avowed to 2025 suggests potential adjustments to the release timelines of other Obsidian projects.

Announced in 2021, The Outer Worlds 2 has seen limited updates since. Urquhart acknowledged this and the possibility of delays, mirroring the situation with Avowed. However, he reaffirmed Obsidian's commitment to delivering high-quality experiences, stating that while initial timelines may not be met, the studio remains dedicated to releasing all projects successfully. Both The Outer Worlds 2 and Avowed are slated for release on PC and Xbox Series S/X.
