Following its Xbox and PC release, Palworld finally arrived on PlayStation consoles, as announced during September 2024's PlayStation State of Play. However, a significant exception exists: the PS5 launch in Japan is indefinitely delayed.
Despite the worldwide rollout, Japanese PlayStation gamers are currently unable to access the game. This delay stems from ongoing legal action between Nintendo, Pokémon, and Palworld developer Pocketpair.
Palworld's official Japanese Twitter (X) account addressed the situation, acknowledging the global release in 68 countries and regions but confirming the indefinite postponement in Japan. They apologized for the delay and stated that a Japanese release date remains undetermined. Their commitment is to bring the game to all PS5 users as soon as possible.
The reason for the delay remains unstated by Pocketpair, but the ongoing patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nintendo in Tokyo District Court is widely considered the cause. Nintendo is seeking an injunction and damages. A granted injunction could force Pocketpair to cease Palworld operations, potentially resulting in the game's removal.
