How to Fix Path of Exile 2 Freezing PC Issues

Path of Exile 2 Freezing? Here's How to Fix It!

Grinding Gear Games' Path of Exile 2, a Diablo-like action RPG, has proven popular, but some players are experiencing frustrating PC freezes, especially during load screens or gameplay. While an official patch is awaited, several workarounds can mitigate this issue.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Many players have found success with these initial adjustments:

  • Graphics API: Switch between Vulkan and DirectX 11 (Dx11) at startup. Experiment to see which performs better on your system.
  • V-Sync: Disable V-Sync in the game's graphics settings.
  • Multithreading: Disable multithreading in the graphics settings.

Advanced Solution (for persistent freezing):

If the above steps fail, a more involved method, suggested by Steam user svzanghi, can help. This workaround allows for a quicker game restart without a full PC reboot:

  1. Launch Path of Exile 2.
  2. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc). Click "Details".
  3. Right-click on POE2.exe.
  4. Select "Set Affinity".
  5. Uncheck "CPU 0" and "CPU 1".

This prevents the game from fully utilizing two CPU cores. While it doesn't eliminate freezing entirely, it enables you to force-quit the game via Task Manager and relaunch without a system reboot. Remember, you'll need to repeat this process each time you start the game.
