Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes will be unavailable starting February 1st, 2025. However, Sony has confirmed their return in the coming months, bringing welcome relief to nostalgic PS5 users.
In a recent tweet, Sony acknowledged the overwhelmingly positive reception to the themes, stating they are working to re-introduce these designs.
Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow. Due to the positive response on these 4 themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead.
While this is good news, Sony also announced that no additional themes are planned for the foreseeable future. This announcement was met with disappointment from fans who had hoped for more themed options on the PS5.
While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.
The temporary themes, released to commemorate PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3rd, 2024, offered visually and aurally immersive experiences. Each theme replicated the distinctive UI and boot-up sounds of its respective console generation. The PSOne theme featured the classic console on the home screen; the PS2 theme replicated its menu design; the PS3 and PS4 themes both incorporated their signature wave backgrounds.
Despite the lack of future theme plans, the temporary return of these beloved classic themes is sure to please many PS5 owners.
