Speculation surrounding a PlayStation 5 release of Starfield intensified after fans spotted a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website, linked to a work-in-progress ship decal. While the creation was subsequently removed, the incident fueled rumors of a PS5 launch. A Reddit user, u/Dollar99Man, noted the logo's appearance, suggesting it might be related to beta testing.
This discovery naturally leads to questions about potential future content updates, perhaps even a new expansion, timed with a PS5 release. Recent months have seen relatively little news regarding Starfield, following the release of the less-than-stellar Shattered Space expansion. With Microsoft expected to host another summer showcase, that event could be the ideal platform for Starfield announcements.
Bethesda has hinted at "exciting things" planned for Starfield this year, acknowledging player concerns about communication and updates. In June 2024, they reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the game, confirming at least one more story expansion beyond Shattered Space. In an interview with MrMattyPlays, Todd Howard stated their aim is to release an annual story expansion "hopefully for a very long time."

Starfield, Bethesda's first new IP in years and its first mainline single-player game since Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media, launched in September 2023. IGN's review awarded it a 7/10, stating that despite several challenges, the game's expansive roleplaying and combat ultimately prove compelling.
In January, Phil Spencer, Microsoft's gaming head, declined to rule out a PS5 release. Reports from March 2024 indicated that both Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny were under consideration for PS5. Indiana Jones subsequently received a PS5 release, a few months after its launch on PC and Xbox. However, Starfield's PS5 release remains unconfirmed, despite Spencer's suggestive comments.
Several Xbox games are already available on PS5, including Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft on PlayStation and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on the platform. Forza Horizon 5 is also confirmed for PS5, and there are even reports of a potential Halo release on PlayStation after years of exclusivity.
Spencer has attributed Xbox's multiplatform strategy to boosting revenue, emphasizing the need to meet internal expectations following the significant Activision Blizzard acquisition. He highlighted the importance of strengthening games and expanding the platform across consoles, PC, and cloud.
Bethesda Game Studios, a 450-person studio, currently manages five teams: Starfield, Elder Scrolls VI, Fallout 76, mobile projects, and external development partnerships.
