Rumors suggest the upcoming Generation 10 Pokémon games might launch on both the original Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2. While the Switch 2's backward compatibility ensures playability regardless, leaked information hints at distinct versions.
Initial speculation favored a Switch 2 exclusive release for Generation 10, given the performance issues plaguing Pokémon Scarlet and Violet on the original Switch. However, recent leaks from a Game Freak insider, relayed by Centro Leaks, paint a different picture. The Generation 10 games, reportedly codenamed "Gaia," are seemingly being primarily developed for the original Switch. A separate project, "Super Gaia," appears to be a Switch 2 iteration. Similarly, a native Switch 2 version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A is also rumored.
Generation 10 on the Original Switch?
The Switch 2's confirmed backward compatibility means that even with native releases on both consoles, Switch 2 owners will be able to play Generation 10 and Legends: Z-A. While enhanced performance on the Switch 2 is anticipated, Nintendo's strategy for potential Switch 2 ports remains unclear.
A Grain of Salt
Remember, all this is based on unconfirmed leaks. Official announcements are expected during the Pokémon Presents event on February 27th. However, reports suggest this event will primarily focus on games for the original Switch, potentially delaying a dedicated Switch 2 Pokémon title for years.
