Pokemon TCG Pocket's Trading Feature Faces Backlash, Prompts Developer Response

DeNA, the developer of Pokemon TCG Pocket, has pledged improvements to the game's trading system following significant player criticism. The controversy centers around the recently implemented trading feature, released January 29, 2025, which allows trading of 1-4 Diamond and 1-Star rarity cards from Genetic Apex and Mythical Island booster packs.

High Cost of Trade Tokens Fuels Player Dissatisfaction
The primary complaint revolves around the high cost and limited availability of trade tokens, the in-game currency required for trading. Acquiring sufficient tokens often necessitates sacrificing higher-rarity cards, a frustrating aspect for many players aiming to complete their Pokedex. For example, trading a 4-Diamond card demands 500 tokens, while selling a 1-Star card yields only 100.

DeNA acknowledged the negative feedback in a February 1, 2025, Twitter (X) post, stating they are actively exploring solutions. These include introducing alternative methods to obtain trade tokens, potentially through in-game events. The developer also clarified that the restrictive trading rules were implemented to mitigate bot activity and account abuse, aiming to maintain a fair and enjoyable card-collecting experience.

Genetic Apex Booster Pack Accessibility Concerns
A separate issue arose with the January 29, 2025, release of the Space-Time Smackdown booster packs. Some players reported the disappearance of the Genetic Apex packs from the main screen, leading to concerns about their accessibility. While the Genetic Apex packs remain available via a less prominent "Select other booster packs" option, the poor visibility sparked speculation and frustration.

Players suggested improving the home screen display to showcase all available booster packs, preventing similar confusion in the future. While DeNA hasn't directly addressed this specific point, the clarification regarding the continued availability of Genetic Apex packs should alleviate some concerns. The developer's response to the trading feature backlash suggests a willingness to address player feedback and improve the overall gaming experience.
