Will Wright, the visionary behind The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his innovative AI life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. This highly anticipated title, initially announced in 2018, is finally taking shape, offering a unique gameplay experience centered around personal memories.
Developed by Gallium Studio, Proxi was showcased in a recent "not-a-trailer-trailer," and Wright's Twitch appearance provided further insight. The livestream was part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, a collaboration between the organization and the gaming community to raise funds for Type 1 diabetes research.
Wright explained that Proxi is an AI-powered life sim built directly from players' memories. Users input their personal recollections in paragraph form, and the game transforms these narratives into animated scenes. These scenes are then customizable, allowing players to refine the visual representation of their memories using in-game assets. Each memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI and contributes to the player's "mind world"—a 3D environment of hexagons that serves as a personalized, explorable space.
This mind world expands as more mems are added, becoming populated with Proxies—digital representations of the player's friends and family. Memories can be arranged chronologically and linked to specific Proxies, reflecting the context and individuals involved. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox!
The core goal of Proxi is to create "magical connections with memories, bringing them to life." Wright emphasized the game's intensely personal nature, stating, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player," and adding a playful observation about player engagement: "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's official website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
