Ratatan, the highly anticipated spiritual successor to Patapon, has unveiled its official gameplay trailer, offering a captivating glimpse into its rhythm-based combat and cooperative features. This article delves into the trailer's highlights and the upcoming closed beta test.

Gameplay Trailer Showcases Rhythm-Based Action and Boss Battles

The recently released trailer showcases Ratatan's unique blend of rhythm game mechanics and side-scrolling action. A thrilling boss battle against a giant crab provides a taste of the intense, rhythmic combat awaiting players. The trailer emphasizes the game's online co-op mode, allowing up to four players to engage in massive battles featuring over 100 characters.

Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani, in collaboration with original Patapon composer Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan successfully surpassed its console stretch goal on Kickstarter in 2023, ensuring its release on multiple platforms.

Closed Beta Commences February 27, 2025

Ratatan Gameplay Trailer Reveals 4 Person Online Co-Op

Ratatan's closed beta test is scheduled to begin on February 27, 2025, as announced via the game's Kickstarter page. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared exciting updates, revealing over 100,000 Steam wishlists and positive feedback on the original soundtrack demo. While the game won't be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is prioritizing the closed beta and preparing an enhanced demo for the June Steam Next Fest.

Sakajiri outlined the closed beta's scope, confirming access to Stage 1 initially, with Stages 2 and 3 to be added during the month-long testing period. Beta key distribution details will be announced via Discord and X.

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A precise release date remains unannounced.
