Rocksteady begins search for Game Director for its next Batman game

Rocksteady Studios is seeking a Game Director for its next major project, as announced in a February 17th job posting by Warner Bros. Discovery.

The successful applicant will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of game design, from core mechanics and player progression to combat systems and mission structure. The ideal candidate possesses broad genre experience, including third-person action, open-world adventures, and melee-focused combat titles. This has fueled speculation of a return to the Batman franchise, the series that catapulted Rocksteady to prominence.

The requirements closely mirror the Batman: Arkham series, unlike Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which prioritized gunplay over close-quarters combat.

As the hiring process is in its early stages, the game is likely still in the conceptual phase. Industry analyst Jason Schreier suggests that, should a new single-player Batman title materialize, it wouldn't launch for several years.

Rocksteady's latest release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, launched February 2nd, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam). The game received a mixed reception, scoring 63/100 on Metacritic (critics) and 4.2/10 (users).

Previous reports hinted at a potential return to the Batman universe, with rumors suggesting a project inspired by Batman Beyond.
