Housemarque Unveils Saros, a New Roguelite Shooter for PS5
Housemarque, the studio behind the acclaimed roguelite shooter Returnal, has announced its next project: Saros. Starring Rahul Kohli, this new single-player title is slated for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, with enhanced features for the PS5 Pro.
Showcased during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros retains the signature Housemarque style. Players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-shifting planet shrouded in eclipse and menaced by formidable entities. The game's atmosphere and core mechanics strongly echo Returnal, with the familiar "come back stronger" roguelite loop and the characteristic bullet-hell action sequences.
Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-focused approach. While a new IP, it builds upon the third-person action established in Returnal.
However, Saros introduces significant gameplay differences. According to Louden's PlayStation Blog post, a key divergence from Returnal lies in its system of persistent resources and progression. While the game world dynamically alters upon player death, players will retain and upgrade their weapons and suits permanently, impacting future playthroughs.
Further details and an extended gameplay reveal are anticipated later this year. For a complete overview of the PlayStation State of Play announcements, visit our recap.
