Shrek 5's new trailer and cast reveal has even caught the attention of Sonic the Hedgehog, who offered some humorous advice on character design. The official Sonic Movie TikTok account posted a video showcasing Sonic's own design evolution, from his initially criticized live-action appearance to the much-improved redesign. The video, playfully titled "advice for green ogres," highlights the importance of nailing a character's look.

The initial reaction to Sonic's 2018 live-action design was overwhelmingly negative, prompting a significant redesign under director Jeff Fowler. This redesign was far more successful. While the response to Shrek's new look isn't as intensely divided, Sonic's lighthearted jab has resonated with fans, generating amused comments.

First announced in 2016, Shrek 5's development remained largely silent until 2023 when Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri confirmed its progress, along with plans for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures shifted Shrek 5's release date to December 23, 2026, making way for the Minions 3 release in its original slot.
