EA and Maxis have unveiled an exceptional 25th-anniversary celebration for The Sims franchise. Both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are making a triumphant return to PC through two Legacy Collections and a special bundle package.
Today marks the official release of The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection on PC. Players can purchase them individually or as part of The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for $40.
These comprehensive editions include virtually all expansion packs and content, with one minor exception - The Sims 2 collection excludes the 2008 IKEA Home Stuff pack. As an anniversary bonus, The Sims 1 receives a Throwback Fit Kit while The Sims 2 gets a Grunge Revival Kit.
This re-release brings both classic games back into circulation after years of limited availability. The Sims 1 originally existed only as physical discs, becoming increasingly difficult to run on modern systems. While The Sims 2 was briefly available as an Ultimate Collection on Origin in 2014, it disappeared from digital stores soon after.
Now all four mainline Sims games are conveniently accessible through digital platforms. Our original reviews awarded The Sims 1 a 9.5/10 and The Sims 2 an 8.5/10 - scores that reflect their enduring charm despite the franchise's subsequent evolution.
While modern Sims games offer more features and polish, these earlier entries retain their unique appeal. Players can rediscover the franchise's roots - from the quirky humor and straightforward gameplay to the surprising challenge that defined these pioneering life simulation titles.
The Legacy Collections are now available on Steam, Epic Games Store, and the EA app, offering both longtime fans and new players a chance to experience these seminal games in their complete forms.
