Oscar Isaac's appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about Poe Dameron's return to the Star Wars universe. The official Star Wars Celebration Instagram account made the announcement, fueling fan excitement. This follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance, where she announced her involvement in a new Star Wars film.
The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, leaving Isaac's feelings about a potential return somewhat ambiguous. While initially expressing reservations, he later stated openness to future projects. He previously joked about only returning for financial reasons, but his more recent comments to Variety indicate a neutral stance.
Isaac has been vocal about his disappointment with Disney's rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (John Boyega's character). Boyega himself has also expressed past negativity toward Disney and the franchise but has since indicated openness to future roles.
This has led to widespread speculation about a reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio—Rey, Finn, and Poe—in the upcoming Rey film. This film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, will focus on Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order. Ridley has publicly expressed her desire for Boyega's return, further fueling this anticipation.
The possibility of Isaac's return, along with Boyega's, could be revealed at Star Wars Celebration 2025. However, fans may face a longer wait for concrete information. Disney has repeatedly delayed several announced Star Wars films. While Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directs the Rey film, its release date is currently unconfirmed, with the earliest potential release being December 17, 2027.
