A highly credible leaker has predicted the official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday, January 16th, 2025. This early 2025 announcement strongly suggests a first-half release for the console.
The Switch 2's existence has been widely anticipated, with reports of mass production commencing in late September or early October 2024. Numerous hardware leaks have further fueled speculation. Nintendo itself previously committed to an announcement before March 31st, 2025, a deadline this January reveal comfortably meets.
NateTheHate, a reputable leaker, broke the news on his January 13th podcast, citing unnamed sources. This aligns with Nintendo's history of using Thursdays for major announcements – mirroring the original Switch reveal in October 2016. The Verge's Tom Warren independently corroborated this information.
While the exact format remains uncertain, Nintendo might follow a similar pattern to the 2017 Switch launch, potentially releasing a brief teaser before the main event. Regardless, the announcement may not be entirely surprising given the sheer volume of leaks over the past months. The influx of unofficial information was so significant that Nintendo even addressed a Switch 2 replica, a rare acknowledgment of leaks.
To recap the known leaks, the Switch 2 is rumored to be slightly larger than the Switch OLED model (approximately 270 x 116 x 14mm), featuring an 8-inch LCD screen. Magnetically attaching Joy-Cons are anticipated, with the right Joy-Con potentially including an extra "C" button, possibly related to a rumored mouse-like pointer function.
The launch game lineup, however, remains largely a mystery. While titles like My Time at Evershine and Bestiario have been confirmed, neither is expected as a day-one release, assuming a first-half 2025 launch. Nintendo is likely to include at least one or two major first-party titles to drive initial sales.
