Ubisoft Restarts Project Maverick Development: Rumor

The extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, taking place in the rugged wilderness of Alaska, has undergone a complete reboot, as reported by Insider Gaming. Initially codenamed Project Maverick, this game was originally planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. However, following a thorough internal review, the project saw substantial changes. Despite garnering positive feedback from both employees and testers, Ubisoft's management opted to divert most of the resources to Project Blackbird, better known as Far Cry 7. The decision to reassign the technical team to other tasks ultimately sealed the fate of the multiplayer component.

The project's reins have now been handed over to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its expertise in development support. As a result, nearly the entire original development team has been reassigned to focus on the next installment of the Far Cry series.

According to insider Tom Henderson (as of mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 is set to envelop players in an atmosphere brimming with tension and desperation, where time emerges as the primary adversary. The narrative will center around the protagonist's quest to rescue their family, kidnapped by a mysterious conspiracy cult. This sinister group is conducting horrifying experiments with hallucinogens on animals and children. Players will face the challenge of saving their loved ones within a stringent 72-hour in-game window, translating to 24 real-time hours, making time an integral and intense gameplay mechanic.

A unique feature of Far Cry 7 will be the protagonist's wristwatch, which features an integrated timer. This constant visual reminder will amplify the urgency of the situation, compelling players to make swift and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 aims to offer a gripping experience where every second is precious, and every decision carries weighty consequences.
