Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers, recently showcased their upcoming open-world dark fantasy action RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, at a game reveal event. This narrative-driven experience promises a unique blend of action and storytelling.

Meet Coen, the Dawnwalker

Players take on the role of Coen, a Dawnwalker – a being existing between human and vampire – in the fictional 14th-century European setting of Vale Sangora. Unlike typical protagonists, Coen is portrayed as emotionally vulnerable and relatable. His journey begins with a desperate race against time (30 days and nights) to save his family from the tyrannical vampire Brencis, who has plunged Vale Sangora into darkness. While the game operates on a modified timescale, offering extensive gameplay hours.

Coen possesses superhuman abilities stemming from his vampiric nature, including enhanced agility and the capacity for magic, showcased by his ability to use magic missiles.

The developers clarified several fan questions via the game's Discord server. Dawnwalkers aren't simply a hybrid of human and vampire, but a distinct entity. The game's magic system will focus on occult practices – rituals, amulets, and summonings – rather than flashy spellcasting.

A Narrative Sandbox with Choice and Consequence

Despite Coen's central quest, The Blood of Dawnwalker is designed as a "narrative sandbox," prioritizing player agency. The nonlinear storyline offers numerous paths to achieving the main objective, with the game world dynamically reacting to player choices. To maintain this single-player focus, multiplayer or co-op modes have been excluded. However, the game will feature romanceable characters from diverse races, including uriashi and kobolds, adding depth to Coen's journey.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, though a specific release date remains unannounced.
