Conquer the challenges of *Avowed*'s higher-level enemies by upgrading your gear. This guide explains how to enhance your weapons and armor to keep pace with the escalating difficulty.

In Avowed, weapon and armor upgrades happen at the Workbench (pictured above). Each upgrade requires specific materials, varying by weapon/armor type and quality. Most materials are readily found or crafted; however, upgrading between qualities demands increasingly rare Adra.
Workbenches are located at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. Find a Waystone, interact with it to set up camp, and the location will be marked on your map with a tent icon, enabling fast travel.
Weapon and armor power in Avowed is tracked through Quality, represented by a numerical value, color, and descriptive adjective. This directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Gear with lower quality than your foes will prove ineffective.
Facing stronger enemies will highlight this—your weapons will deal minimal damage, and your armor offers limited protection. Conversely, fighting weaker enemies provides significant advantages. Keeping your gear's quality on par with enemy levels ensures combat effectiveness. Here's the quality breakdown:
Each quality level allows for three additional upgrades (+0 to +3). While less impactful than quality increases, these still boost stats. All three sub-levels must be completed before upgrading to the next quality.

Beyond quality and sub-levels, Avowed categorizes gear into standard and unique items. Standard gear is common loot or merchant purchases. Unique items (named, proper-noun items) are rewards from quests or boss drops; some merchants may also sell them.
Unique gear surpasses standard gear in upgrade potential, reaching Legendary quality (standard gear maxes at Superb). They also boast additional bonuses and perks. Prioritize upgrading unique weapons and armor, reserving resources for these superior items. Use standard gear temporarily and sell or dismantle it for resources to upgrade your unique equipment.
Mastering gear upgrades is key to success in *Avowed*. Now go forth and conquer!
