The annual World of Warcraft Feast of Winter Veil, a digital equivalent to Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities! Each year brings new collectable items, gold, and other surprises.
A recent collaboration between World of Warcraft and PlatinumWoW has unveiled a captivating lore video, exploring the holiday's rich history. The video delves into the origins of Winter Veil, encompassing the Dwarven legend of Greatfather Winter – a Titan-forged giant who leaves a trail of snow – and the Tauren's traditions of spiritual renewal and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also highlights the rise of Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise that has commercialized Winter Veil, mirroring real-world Christmas traditions.
The Legend of Metzen the Reindeer
No discussion of Winter Veil lore is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has endured three separate kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron dwarves in Classic WoW, and later by the Grinch in the current iteration of the game. The video concludes with a humorous nod to Metzen, with the reindeer expressing thanks in Thrall's voice (famously voiced by Metzen himself).
Blizzard's Content Creator Partnerships
This isn't the first time World of Warcraft has partnered with PlatinumWoW. Previous collaborations have included lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, and Blackrock Depths. These partnerships, along with contributions from other creators like Taliesin & Evitel and Hurricane, demonstrate Blizzard's commitment to engaging diverse content creators.
