Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Shares Plot Details

A new trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition unveils more details about its compelling narrative and characters. The original game concluded with a cliffhanger, but this upcoming release promises expanded story content, potentially resolving the unresolved ending. Originally launched in 2015 for the Wii U, Xenoblade Chronicles X now arrives on the Nintendo Switch.

The "The Year is 2054" trailer features Elma, a key protagonist, recounting the events leading to humanity's arrival on Mira. Gameplay footage showcases the adaptation from the Wii U's GamePad functionality to the Nintendo Switch.

The Xenoblade Chronicles series, a JRPG creation by Monolith Soft's Tetsuya Takahashi, is a Nintendo exclusive. The first game's Western release was secured through fan efforts (Operation Rainfall). The series' success spawned three further titles: Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and the spin-off Xenoblade Chronicles X. The XCX: Definitive Edition completes the series' availability on the Nintendo Switch.

The trailer depicts 2054 Earth embroiled in an intergalactic conflict between alien factions. A group of humans escapes the planet's destruction aboard the White Whale, seeking a new home. Their journey culminates in a crash landing on Mira, with the Lifehold (housing most passengers in stasis) lost. The player's mission is to locate the Lifehold before its power depletes.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will introduce new narrative elements, potentially bridging the original's unresolved ending. The game is a large-scale RPG, featuring the BLADE (the player character) searching for the Lifehold, exploring Mira, deploying probes, and battling native and alien life to secure humanity's survival.

The Wii U version heavily utilized the GamePad, serving as a dynamic map and interaction tool. The Switch version streamlines this, moving the GamePad's functionality into a dedicated menu. A mini-map now resides in the upper-right corner, consistent with other Xenoblade titles, and other UI elements have been integrated into the main screen. While the UI appears uncluttered, this adaptation may subtly alter gameplay dynamics compared to the original.
