Final Fantasy XIV Halts Housing Demolitions Amidst LA Wildfires

Square Enix has temporarily suspended automatic housing demolition timers in Final Fantasy XIV on North American servers due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. This affects players on the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers. The decision comes just one day after the company resumed these timers following a previous suspension.

The 45-day demolition timers are a standard practice to free up housing plots from inactive players and Free Companies. Players can reset their timers by simply logging into their homes. However, Square Enix regularly pauses these timers in response to real-world events that might prevent players from accessing the game, such as natural disasters. This latest pause follows a previous one related to Hurricane Helene's aftermath.

While Square Enix initially planned to resume automatic demolitions, the LA wildfires prompted an immediate halt. No timeline has been provided for when the timers will be reactivated; the company will monitor the situation and provide updates. Homeowners can continue to reset their timers by visiting their properties.

This unexpected pause adds to the eventful start of 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV players, following the recent return of a free login campaign. The impact of the wildfires extends beyond the game, with events like Critical Role's Campaign 3 finale being postponed and an NFL playoff game relocated.

The suspension of automatic housing demolitions underscores Square Enix's consideration for players affected by the real-world events impacting their ability to play. The duration of this pause remains uncertain.
