Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting

The release of Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 7 has ignited a modding frenzy. Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke reported over one million mod installations within 24 hours of the patch's September 5th launch. This figure was quickly surpassed, with mod.io founder Scott Reismanis noting over 3 million installs and counting.
Vincke highlighted the significant impact of modding on the game, stating that "Modding is pretty big." This enthusiasm is fueled by Patch 7's inclusion of Larian's official Mod Manager, a user-friendly in-game tool for browsing, installing, and managing community-created content.

Patch 7 also delivered substantial new content: evil endings, enhanced split-screen, and the aforementioned Mod Manager. External modding tools, accessible via Steam, empower modders to craft their own narratives using Larian's Osiris scripting language, offering features like custom script loading and basic debugging, with direct publishing capabilities.
A community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked" (Nexus Mods) expands modding possibilities further, providing a level editor and reactivating previously restricted features within Larian's editor. While Larian initially limited tool access, focusing on game development rather than tool creation, the community's response has been remarkable.

Looking ahead, Larian aims to introduce cross-platform modding, acknowledging the complexity of ensuring compatibility across PC and consoles. The rollout will prioritize the PC version, with console support following later to allow for thorough testing and troubleshooting.
Beyond modding, Patch 7 boasts UI improvements, new animations, expanded dialogue options, and numerous bug fixes and performance enhancements. With further updates planned, the future of Baldur's Gate 3 modding looks incredibly bright.
