Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley has expressed a soft spot for the Evil Genius franchise, hinting that while no official announcements have been made, the possibility of an Evil Genius 3 isn't off the table. Kingsley's passion for the series is clear, but he's taking his time to ensure any future installment would elevate the franchise to new heights.
He suggested that the theme of world domination, central to Evil Genius, could transcend the traditional base-building simulator genre and explore other strategic game formats. Although specific projects are still under wraps, the creative minds at Rebellion are buzzing with ideas on how to expand the Evil Genius universe.
Evil Genius 2, launched in 2021, garnered "mostly positive" reviews from critics on Metacritic. Yet, the reception among regular players was less enthusiastic. Despite boasting enhanced graphics and efforts to rectify previous shortcomings, the sequel didn't quite meet the expectations set by its predecessor. Fans were particularly vocal about their disappointment with the global map mechanics, the way minions and structures functioned, and several other elements that they felt didn't live up to the original game's standards.
