Neon Spellstorm, an upcoming action title from TopCog, is now open for pre-registration. This roguelite bullet-heaven game shares the same core inspiration as the studio's other major releases: wizards. TopCog's portfolio includes the Tap Wizard series and WizUp.
In Neon Spellstorm, you dash forward on a luminous path that disintegrates behind you as you unleash spells in all directions. You take on the role of a wizard within a low-tech cyberpunk realm, brought to life with distinctive pixel art and glitch aesthetics.
The game features 28 spells for you to experiment with. You'll combine various effects such as echo, havoc, behemoth, and aftershock. Chaining multiple spells together allows you to create even more powerful synergies. Additionally, 74 unique trinkets enable you to craft wildly inventive builds.
Each run offers a fresh experience, as the spells and trinkets you acquire are never certain. This randomness ensures exciting and dynamic gameplay. As you progress, you'll collect Orbs, Stars, Gems, and Neon, which can be spent at the Neon Core to permanently unlock new upgrades and spells.
Neon Spellstorm employs a 2.5D mixed-media visual style, effectively blending 2D sprites with low-poly 3D models to create a unique hybrid look. You can see it in action right here.
Before each run, you can customize your wizard from six different characters. You also select spells, fates, archetypes, and sigils to align with your strategic approach. Once in the game, you have the freedom to decide how you want to navigate and conquer the map.
You can now pre-register for Neon Spellstorm on the Google Play Store. Upon release, a free demo will be available, with a single in-app purchase required to unlock the complete game. The targeted release date for mobile is August 11, 2025.
The developers have cited several acclaimed titles as inspirations for the game's style and mechanics, including Hades, Bastion, Risk of Rain 2, Slay the Spire, and TopCog's own Tap Wizard 2. The hope is that the final game lives up to its promising presentation.
