The Burning Monolith: Path of Exile 2's Endgame Challenge
The Burning Monolith, a unique map node on the Atlas of Worlds, presents a formidable endgame challenge in Path of Exile 2. Similar to the Realmgate, its location is near the starting point of your mapping journey, but accessing it is far from trivial.
Unlocking the Burning Monolith
This challenging encounter area houses the pinnacle boss, Arbiter of Ash. Activating the Monolith's door initiates "The Pinnacle of Flame" quest, requiring three Crisis Fragments obtained from completing the Iron, Copper, and Stone Citadels. These Citadels are exceptionally difficult-to-locate map nodes on the Atlas. Once you acquire all three fragments, use them on the altar within the Burning Monolith to begin the Arbiter of Ash fight. Be prepared; this boss is notoriously difficult, boasting devastating attacks and immense health.
Locating the Elusive Citadels
Finding the three Citadels (Iron, Copper, and Stone) is the true challenge. Each Citadel features a unique boss that must be defeated to acquire the corresponding Crisis Fragment. Citadel attempts are one-time only.
Due to the randomly generated Atlas, Citadel locations are unpredictable. However, several community-based strategies exist:
Citadel hunting is a significant endgame commitment, best undertaken with a fully optimized build.
Acquiring Crisis Fragments
The Crisis Fragments, the rewards for Citadel completion, can also be purchased via the trading website or Currency Exchange. While expensive due to their rarity, this option avoids the lengthy and challenging hunt.
