Clair Obscur: Expedition 33: A Turn-Based RPG Inspired by Classics
Sandfall Interactive's upcoming turn-based RPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is making waves with its unique blend of turn-based combat and real-time elements. Drawing inspiration from beloved franchises like Final Fantasy and Persona, as well as classic JRPGs, the game aims to create a fresh experience within the genre.

The game's setting, inspired by the Belle Epoque era of France, features visually stunning environments such as the gravity-defying Flying Waters. The narrative centers around preventing the enigmatic Paintress from unleashing death once more.

Combat blends strategic turn-based commands with the need for real-time reactions to enemy attacks. This dynamic system, reminiscent of titles like Persona and Sea of Stars, adds a layer of urgency and excitement. Creative Director Guillaume Broche highlighted the influence of Final Fantasy VIII, IX, and X on the game's core mechanics, emphasizing a focus on creating a dynamic experience rather than direct imitation.

Broche also acknowledged Persona's impact on the game's camera movements, menus, and overall dynamic presentation, while maintaining a distinct artistic style. The open world allows for seamless switching between party members and utilizing unique traversal abilities to solve environmental puzzles.

The developers expressed their hope that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will resonate with players in the same way classic titles impacted them, encouraging experimentation and unique character builds. The game is slated for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox in 2025.
