Funcom has unveiled key details about the business model and post-launch roadmap for Dune: Awakening, clarifying that the May 20 release marks the complete launch rather than an Early Access phase.
Despite being classified as an MMO, this multiplayer survival experience inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi universe won't follow subscription-based monetization. Drawing from its experience with long-running titles like Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles, Funcom plans to support the game through free expansions while offering optional DLCs.
Three distinct versions will be available at launch:
All pre-orders receive bonus customization options including a universal color pattern and the decorative Terrarium of Muad'Dib.
PC players can expect support for all major upscaling technologies:
Minimum Specs: Target solid performance with Intel Core i5-7400/Ryzen 3 1200, GTX 1060/Radeon 5600XT (6GB VRAM), and 60GB storage.
Recommended Specs: For optimal experience: Intel Core i7-10700K/Ryzen 5 2600X, RTX 3070/Radeon 6700XT (8-12GB VRAM), and 75GB SSD space.
Following Funcom's established approach with its other MMOs, players can expect regular free updates that introduce new content, gameplay improvements, and quality-of-life enhancements throughout the game's lifecycle.
