Halo Infinite Update Boosts Xbox FPS: Calls for Relaunch Campaign

The "Summer 2025 Update" for Halo Infinite, available until June 10, is now live. This update introduces new playlists, the powerful Mutilator weapon, updates to the sandbox, new tools for Forge, and an expanded selection of weapons on the Weapon Bench. Players can also enjoy 50 additional tiers, four new armor sets, bonus XP, and an extra challenge slot with the Premium Operation Pass upgrade.

Despite these enhancements, some fans feel that the updates might be too little, too late. Halo Infinite has undergone substantial changes since its launch, including the rebranding of its developer from 343 Industries to Halo Studios. The game experienced a significant drop in player numbers due to dissatisfaction with content scarcity, progression systems, monetization issues, and the cancellation of a highly anticipated battle royale mode.

However, there's a growing sentiment among the community that Halo Infinite is now better than ever. In a Reddit thread titled "Halo Infinite REALLY should do a 'relaunch' ad campaign. It's just not the same game as at launch. Not even close," one fan expressed their enthusiasm: "I can't imagine anyone who likes Halo but hasn't given this game a chance, or haven't played since launch, would be disappointed coming back. The game has evolved with three new guns, numerous new maps, multiple new firefight modes, and a wealth of unlockables. A well-crafted trailer showcasing these changes could significantly boost the game's reputation."

They further elaborated on the extensive updates: "Three new pieces of equipment, five new guns, over a hundred new maps, ten new game modes, hundreds of new armor pieces, a vastly improved free credit shop, expanded ranked playlists, a career rank system, and the culmination of old battle passes offering nearly a thousand tiers. Plus, an exceptional Forge mode, custom games, a custom games browser, firefight, and the integration of AI in Forge."

Other fans echoed these sentiments, with one stating, "I wholeheartedly agree, the game is easily the best since [Halo 3] and the best 343 has produced." Another shared, "I have a buddy who wrote it off early and hasn’t come back. He’s already trashing the game, and I try telling him it’s solid now, but he doesn’t want to hear it." A third fan added, "Multiplayer-wise, it's the best Halo ever made."

In a different thread discussing the iconic image of Master Chief from Halo Infinite's marketing, a fan shared their renewed passion: "I really love Infinite. It revitalized my love for the series after stopping during Halo 4. The Spartan customization is the best, the variety of game modes is great, and the campaign, though unique, is enjoyable with fantastic music."

Another fan detailed their progress and enjoyment: "Approaching my first Onyx rank and on track to hit max career rank. The gameplay is fluid, blending classic Halo with modern upgrades, and sprint feels amazing. Infinite has surpassed its launch state and continues to improve. It's one of my favorites in the series!"

A third fan praised the game's multiplayer: "It's the best arena shooter on Xbox right now. Halo Infinite scratches that itch that I wish COD did."

However, not all fans are convinced of the game's revival. One expressed disappointment: "This image represents the last bit of hope I had. I genuinely think Halo’s time is over, the people who understood how to make the magic happen are all scattered and gone."

IGN's review of Halo Infinite's single-player campaign in 2021 awarded it a 9/10, stating: "Halo Infinite's single-player campaign is exactly what this series needed. It brings out the best in Master Chief's unique and satisfying combat style while leveraging old ideas to create memorable new moments. Its story falls short for both new and veteran players, but it was worth the six-year wait."

With Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy expanding, some Xbox fans are curious if Halo might follow titles like Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War to PlayStation. Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s gaming chief, has indicated that there are no “red lines” in their first-party lineup, suggesting potential future cross-platform releases.
