LEGO Enters the Gaming World with In-House Projects

LEGO CEO Niels Christiansen has unveiled ambitious plans to significantly expand the company's digital footprint, venturing into the world of video game development. This strategic move will involve both independent game creation and strategic partnerships. Christiansen stated, “We are confident that, as long as we operate under the LEGO brand, we aim to create experiences for children of all ages across both digital and physical platforms. Developing games internally is something we are actively pursuing.”

This expansion into in-house game development doesn't signal an end to LEGO's established practice of licensing its brand to third-party developers. Recent reports, for example, indicate that TT Games, renowned for its long-running series of LEGO-themed games, is currently developing a new title, likely based on a Warner Bros. franchise.

LEGO's existing foray into gaming is highlighted by its successful collaboration with Epic Games. Last year's Fortnite LEGO-themed mode proved incredibly popular, showcasing the brand's appeal within the gaming community.

The company's long-standing relationship with TT Games has yielded a prolific series of adventure games over the past two decades. While new releases from TT Games have been less frequent recently, speculation points towards a new LEGO Harry Potter game, potentially capitalizing on the success of the commercially triumphant LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Further demonstrating LEGO's commitment to the gaming industry and its adaptability to diverse genres, the company partnered with 2K Games to release LEGO 2K Drive, a racing game launched last year. This diverse portfolio of gaming ventures underscores LEGO's strategic expansion into the digital realm.
