The Minecraft Movie has shattered box office records, surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie to claim the title of the biggest domestic debut for a video game adaptation. Starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, with the latter also featuring in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this Xbox game adaptation raked in an astounding $157 million in North America alone. In comparison, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which holds the record as the highest-grossing video game adaptation to date, opened with $146 million domestically back in April 2023.

Internationally, A Minecraft Movie pulled in an additional $144 million, culminating in a global opening weekend total of $301 million. With a production budget of $150 million before marketing costs, Warner Bros. may already be seeing profits from this blockbuster hit.

A Minecraft Movie draws its inspiration from Mojang's Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time. Now under Microsoft's ownership, this sandbox game continues to captivate a global audience and features movie tie-in DLC to leverage the film's successful launch.

IGN rated A Minecraft Movie at 6/10, noting that "Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess infuses A Minecraft Movie with a uniquely humorous and engaging comic twist, particularly in the more subdued first half of the film."

On the other hand, Disney's live-action Snow White is struggling at the box office, with a global total of $168.4 million ($77.5 million domestic and $90.9 million international). Given its hefty $250 million production budget, the film's chances of replicating the sleeper hit success of Mufasa: The Lion King seem slim.
