Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon recently shed light on how the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat 1, will handle the unique portrayals of Omni-Man and Homelander. During an insightful interview at Gamescom, Boon emphasized the creative process behind ensuring these two characters feel distinct in gameplay.
In his conversation with IGN at Gamescom, Boon addressed the fanbase's concerns about potential similarities between Homelander and Omni-Man's combat styles. He reassured fans that the development team at NetherRealm Studios is committed to differentiating these characters. Boon explained that the creative freedom they have allows them to explore various concepts for each hero, but they are careful to avoid overlapping abilities, particularly those reminiscent of Superman. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," Boon stated.
Boon also revealed that the team drew inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to craft their Fatalities. This approach not only ensures that Homelander and Omni-Man will feel different to play but also leverages the iconic moments fans love from these characters. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon added.
