Insomniac Games, renowned for its Ratchet & Clank franchise, has expressed keen interest in expanding its game-to-screen adaptations. This revelation emerged from a Variety interview with co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider, following the announcement of founder and CEO Ted Price's retirement.
Schneider highlighted the studio's prior experience with the 2016 Ratchet & Clank film, stating, "We kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet and Clank in particular." While the 2016 film received mixed reviews, Insomniac, now under Sony's umbrella since 2019, is optimistic about future projects, leveraging Sony's proven success in game adaptations, notably the critically acclaimed The Last of Us.

Insomniac's renewed focus on film and television aligns perfectly with Sony's successful track record. Recent successes include the 2022 Uncharted film and the 2023 The Last of Us series. Further bolstering this strategy, Sony's CES 2025 press conference announced several upcoming projects: The Last of Us Season 2 (HBO, April 2025), an Until Dawn live-action film (April 2025), a Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series (Crunchyroll, 2027), and feature films based on Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn, although release dates for the latter two remain unannounced.

Ted Price's retirement after 30 years marks a significant shift for Insomniac. The studio, responsible for iconic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel's Spider-Man, will now be led by three veteran co-Studio Heads: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang. Price emphasized his confidence in this new leadership, stating that their deep understanding of Insomniac's culture and processes will ensure continued success.
