Former CD Projekt Red developers at Rebel Wolves have debuted the cinematic reveal trailer for their first game, The Blood of Dawnwalker, showcasing its dark fantasy world and narrative-driven RPG elements.
The Blood of Dawnwalker appears heavily influenced by The Witcher series, featuring an open-world dark fantasy setting with morally ambiguous choices and an outcast protagonist. Adding unique depth, the game will incorporate Persona-inspired time management mechanics.
After nearly a year since its initial announcement, Rebel Wolves partnered with Bandai Namco to unveil The Blood of Dawnwalker with a rich four-minute cinematic trailer. The footage showcases lore about the powerful Dawnwalker creatures (enhanced vampires) and introduces protagonist Coen, who becomes transformed at the story's beginning.
The game's dark fantasy world, monster hunting, and themes of difficult choices instantly recall The Witcher universe - particularly resonating with fans of the Blood and Wine expansion. Featuring a morality system, players can either embrace Coen's Dawnwalker abilities to save his family or struggle to retain his humanity.
While drawing from The Witcher, The Blood of Dawnwalker introduces fresh RPG mechanics. Inspired by Persona, the game implements time management where every quest consumes in-game time. According to Game Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, there's no strict division between main and side quests - players decide how to allocate their limited time.
Currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, The Blood of Dawnwalker is planned as the first installment in a trilogy. While no specific release date exists, given its 2022 development start and AAA scope, a 2027 launch seems probable. Rebel Wolves promises a gameplay reveal in summer 2025.
