Blizzard Fails to Extend Diablo 3 Event

Diablo 3's annual "Fall of Tristram" event, cherished by fans, is set to conclude on February 1. Despite requests from the community to extend this popular event, Blizzard's community manager, pezradar, has confirmed that an extension is currently unfeasible. "I asked about Tristram and the possibility of extending it, but unfortunately [the event] is hard-coded and it's impossible to make server-side fixes," pezradar explained. This hard-coding means that the event's duration cannot be altered without significant changes to the game's underlying structure.

In addition to the Tristram event, pezradar addressed the delay of Diablo 3's Season 34, known as "Call of Light." The delay has disrupted the weekend plans of many fans. "I'm sorry. It's not what I was hoping for. We were notified about 24 hours before we had to adjust the time," pezradar stated. The reason for the delay stems from issues with the automatic scheduler that prematurely ended the previous season. The development team is using the extra time to implement and test new code, ensuring a smoother transition between seasons and the proper transfer of player progress. "We can improve communication with players at earlier stages, and the team is aware of this for the future," pezradar added, acknowledging the need for better communication.

Meanwhile, Wolcen Studio has announced Project Pantheon, an exciting new free-to-play combat role-playing game that incorporates elements of extraction shooter mechanics. The first closed alpha test for this game is scheduled to begin on January 25 in Europe, with North American players joining on February 1. Game director Andrei Cirkulete described the game as a blend of "the tension and risk reward of an extraction shooter with the battle dynamics of combat role-playing games." He further noted the influence of games like Diablo and Escape from Tarkov on Project Pantheon, saying, "Diablo and Escape from Tarkov seem to have a parenthood." Players will assume the role of a messenger of Death, tasked with restoring order to a world in chaos. Wolcen Studio is keen to gather feedback from the community during these alpha tests.
