Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Directed Mode Has Been Huge for Zombies

Activision confirms that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed mode has significantly boosted main quest completion rates, nearly doubling player participation. While many Black Ops 6 Zombies players prioritize survival, Directed mode has successfully engaged a larger segment of the player base in the game's narrative.

The Call of Duty Zombies mode, introduced in World at War, has always featured a storyline, which has grown increasingly complex over numerous iterations. Despite a decline in the overall Black Ops 6 player base, the Zombies mode maintains a substantial and dedicated community. The wave-based gameplay, however, often incentivizes players to focus on upgrading weapons and defenses rather than the story. Directed mode, launched in Season 1, has proven to be a game-changer.

A recent blog post revealed that Directed mode increased the main quest completion rate from a mere 4% to 8.23%. This impressive jump is based on a staggering 480 million hours of Black Ops 6 Zombies gameplay, with a small portion logged since Directed mode's November 14th launch. Treyarch's goal of increasing main quest participation is clearly being met, with the doubling of completion rates considered a significant success. However, with over 90% of players still not completing the main quest, Treyarch acknowledges ongoing efforts to further improve these numbers.

Included in Black Ops 6's Season 1 update alongside three new maps and two additional game modes, Directed mode provides structured guidance for players navigating the intricate Zombies storyline. The storyline, encompassing interdimensional travel, zero-point energy, and time manipulation, can be challenging for newcomers. While previous installments left players largely to decipher the narrative themselves, Directed mode offers a more accessible path to understanding the latest chapter.

Directed mode's implementation has already led to a notable increase in main quest completions. As Treyarch continues to support Black Ops 6 with updates, further refinements to both the Zombies mode and Directed mode are anticipated to further enhance player engagement with the narrative.
