Dynasty Warriors: Origins offers a challenging yet rewarding hack-and-slash experience, but choosing the right difficulty can be tricky. This guide breaks down the four difficulty settings to help you find the perfect fit.
Four difficulty levels are available, though initially only three are unlocked: Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). Ultimate Warrior (very hard) unlocks after completing a faction's main scenario. Note that completing a battle on Ultimate Warrior earns a Trophy/Achievement, but campaign completion doesn't have difficulty-specific rewards.
Historian is ideal for newcomers to the genre or those prioritizing story over challenge. Wayfarer provides a balanced experience suitable for most players, even with limited Musou experience. Hero is a good starting point for series veterans, while Ultimate Warrior offers a significant step up in difficulty, best suited for experienced Musou players seeking a greater challenge after unlocking it. Difficulty can be adjusted between battles via the config menu without impacting the story.
Historian simplifies gameplay, making enemy attacks easily blockable, staggering enemies easier, bravery gain increased, and Musou Gauge filling faster. Hero increases enemy strength and aggression, reduces parry/evade windows, removes Meat Bun drops, depletes bravery on blocking, limits influence over army battles, and slightly reduces Skill Points and gold earned. Ultimate Warrior intensifies Hero's challenges with even tighter timing windows and significantly reduced rewards.
