The game director of The Blood Of Dawnwalker explained why he quit CDPR and opened his own studio

Following the releases of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, several key figures from CD Projekt RED departed to pursue independent projects. One such venture is The Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by a veteran CD Projekt RED developer.

Rebel Wolves recently revealed The Blood of Dawnwalker. Studio head Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz detailed his reasons for leaving CDPR:

The core motivation was a desire to collaborate with friends on innovative projects, leading to the formation of Rebel Wolves. While sharing a deep appreciation for RPGs and their history, Tomaszkiewicz felt the genre's established conventions could be significantly expanded upon. This resulted in the conception of some unconventional game design ideas. He recognized that implementing these novel concepts within a large corporation would be challenging, particularly concerning the development of original intellectual property. Therefore, establishing their own studio became necessary to realize their ambitious vision. This approach, while inherently risky, allows for greater creative freedom and agility.

In contrast to the complexities of larger studios, Rebel Wolves prioritizes direct collaboration and open communication within its smaller team. Tomaszkiewicz believes this fosters a more efficient and creative environment, simplifying the process of refining the game's vision and bringing unique ideas to life. The smaller team structure allows for a more intense creative energy and the pursuit of genuinely original gameplay.
